Biomechanical Assessment

At Poole Bay Podiatry we are experts in diagnosing sports injuries affecting the leg, foot and ankle

A biomechanical examination is a comprehensive assessment of the joints, bones, muscles and ligaments of the feet, legs and pelvis, relating to your issue or running injury. We analyse the way your body functions together to get you moving and feeling steady on your feet.

Assessing the relationships and positions of the joints in your feet and legs and the range of motion of these joints can indicate what is and isn’t working correctly. We are then able to identify potential causes of injuries as well as how to optimise lower limb function so you can move effectively and for longer, without tiring or pain.

Testing includes:

  • Range of motion through the joints
  • Proprioception (balance)
  • Muscle strength testing
  • Foot Posture Index
  • Limb length check

A thorough biomechanical examination combined with a full history of your problem helps us make an accurate diagnosis and prescribe the appropriate treatment and management plan for a speedy solution.

We pride ourselves on our thorough assessments and routinely perform this examination as part of our commitment to clinical excellence and providing you with the best outcomes.

Depending on what the biomechanical assessment reveals will determine the type of treatment you will require and advice you’ll receive.  Sometimes we might recommend further video gait analysis or pressure plate evaluation. This will all be discussed with you at your assessment.
